FAQ1-Time coordinates: How do I interpret the time coordinate in the files?

Time unit: ka BP: thousands of years before present

0 ka BP is 1950AD

A negative sign is added to the time coordintes to plot the evolution of the data from left to right. -22 stands for 22 ka BP (22 thousand years before 1950AD); 0.05 stands for -0.05 ka BP (0.050 thousand years after 1950AD), which is 2000AD

There are 2205 decades in the decadal mean data spanning 22 ka BP and 2000AD

There are 264600 months in the monthly mean data spanning 22 ka BP and 2000AD

FAQ3-units of PRECT: How do I interpret the units of PRECIPITATION RATE (PRECT) in the files?

For precipitation rate (PRECT), the SI unit is m/s. 1 m/s roughly equals 1000*86400 mm/day, 1000*86400*30 mm/month, or 1000*86400*365 mm/year (3.15e+10 mm/year). For example, 5e-9 m/s is roughly 157.5 mm/year
